Baku: In the latest edition of its ‘Around Azerbaijan’ column, Euronews aired a reportage highlighting how Azerbaijan’s Ismayilli district is reinventing itself, welcoming new residents and artisans without compromising its authentic rural identity. In the episode, the channel’s reporter Anca Ulea visited Ismayilli to explore the district’s serene lifestyle and timeless traditions.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the reportage, titled ‘Disconnect in Azerbaijan’s Ismayilli district, where farm-to-table is just standard living,’ describes the district as a pastoral getaway easily reachable from Baku. It has become a destination for city dwellers seeking a slower pace of life. The district is experiencing a rural renaissance as newcomers bring new energy and skills, creating a cultural blend. In Ivanovka village, known for being the last kolkhoz in the Caucasus, visitors can explore local history at the Molokan Cultural Centre and purchase honey and cheese from farmers like Andrey Antifeev, whose honey has gained international recognition.

The Damir Art Gallery is part of the village’s creative revival, attracting artists from Baku, while guest houses such as Ohio Inn and Caf© accommodate international visitors. Wine enthusiasts can visit the nearby Chabiant Winery, where Italian winemaker Marco Catelani utilizes his expertise to showcase the country’s heritage grape varieties, including Madrasa and Bayan Shira.
