Baku: The North-South International Transport Corridor is set to create significant new opportunities for both Iran and Azerbaijan by strengthening their roles as key transit hubs between Asia, the Caucasus, and Europe. For Iran, the corridor enhances access to regional and global markets, reduces transportation costs, and boosts non-oil trade revenues. For Azerbaijan, it reinforces its strategic position as a logistics and connectivity center while facilitating closer economic integration with neighboring countries. Overall, the corridor promotes trade diversification, encourages investment in infrastructure and logistics, and deepens economic cooperation between Tehran and Baku, contributing to sustainable regional development, Asgar Ghahremanpour, Editor-in-Chief of the Iran Daily newspaper, told AZERTAC.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the North-South Transport Corridor goes beyond a conventional transit route and serves as a strategic instrument for redefining the two countries' role in regional and international value chains. It enables structured economic integration with northern and southern neighbors while enhancing Iran's bargaining power within regional trade and transit arrangements, thereby increasing the country's economic weight in the broader Eurasian landscape.

The development of this corridor facilitates technology transfer, the harmonization of customs and logistics standards, and improvements in the efficiency of Iran's domestic transport network, all of which contribute in the long term to better economic governance and greater national competitiveness, the expert added.
