“A number of fake social media accounts have shared a video message on behalf of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, allegedly encouraging citizens to invest in the country’s banking sector. We inform you that the mentioned video message was created using “deep-fake” technology and is false information that does not reflect any reality,” read a joint statement by Azerbaijan’s State Service of Special Communication and Information Security and Media Development Agency, APA-Economics reports.
The joint statement called on the public to trust only information from official sources and reminded that the official website and social media accounts of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan are always active as reliable sources of information and promptly cover the activities of the head of state: “We urge Azerbaijani citizens, journalists, and public activists to always demonstrate principledness against such cases and to remain vigilant in a situation where campaigns based on false and f
ake information are rampant.
“Appropriate measures are being taken regarding the mentioned fake and false video message, which was created using ‘deep-fake’ technologies, as well as its source.”
