FAO Strengthens Partnership with Azerbaijan at Major Agricultural Forum

Baku: At the opening ceremony of the Azerbaijan International Agriculture Exhibition and Forum - Caspian Agro Week, Muhammad Nasar Hayat, the representative of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) in Azerbaijan, highlighted the growing partnership between FAO and the Azerbaijani government. The event, which also included the 31st Azerbaijan International Food Industry Exhibition - InterFood Azerbaijan, took place at the Baku Expo Center.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Hayat emphasized the importance of resilient and innovative agriculture amidst global challenges such as disrupted supply chains and climate change. He spoke about the critical role of the Caspian Agro exhibition in connecting innovation with practical solutions, particularly in the context of Azerbaijan's agriculture sector. FAO's collaboration with the Azerbaijani government focuses on introducing efficient irrigation practices, strengthening cooperatives, and supporting sustainable land and water management. These initiatives are aimed at enhancing livelihoods, protecting ecosystems, and creating opportunities for rural communities.

Hayat reiterated that agriculture is a cornerstone of Azerbaijan's identity and economic progress. As the sector modernizes, FAO remains committed to supporting innovation, policy development, digital transformation, and climate resilience. The representative stressed the need for a collective effort involving governments, intergovernmental organizations, the private sector, academia, farmers, and communities to ensure agriculture is both productive and sustainable.
