Farid Shafiyev: There are no longer tactical, but strategic problems between Armenia and Russia

“There are no longer tactical, but strategic problems between Armenia and Russia,” Chairman of the Center for the Analysis of International Relations Farid Shafiyev said at the press conference on finals of the year, APA reports.

“At the same time, if we look at the events that occurred in 2018-2020, Armenia was behaving in such a way as if they were independent, and did not depend on Russia. They tried to implement some projects with the West. Azerbaijan’s position is also clear. Some of them will be announced in the future. Some promises were given. However, since 2019, Armenia has not taken any steps regarding Madrid principles. There was the issue of the return of at least 5 districts. They refused it too. Of course, all this was negatively received by Russia. Therefore, Russia didn’t support Armenia’s this policy at a certain degree. The reason why I am calling it a certain degree is Karabakh issue was a tool at the hands of Russia. However, they realized it at the same time that some steps should be made within the framework of this conflict. And Armenia factually refused it. For instance, Armenia itself caused the Tovuz incidents. Pashinyan stressed that we achieved victory in Tovuz. It means that they prepared it themselves, conducted it as a campaign and we know its results”.
