The Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic signed an order on 10 June 2022 “On conducting the First International Medical Forum in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic” and an organizational committee of the forum was created, the press service of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic told AZERTAC.
The opening ceremony of the first international medical forum was held in the Nakhchivan State Drama Theater on 18 June. The Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Vasif Talibov, attended the opening ceremony.
First, the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Vasif Talibov, the rector of the Azerbaijan State Medical University, Garay Garaybayli, the rector of the Baku branch of the Moscow State Medical University, Aziz Aliyev, the honorable chairman of the Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgery Association, Cavid Avci, the rector of the Yeditepe University of Turkiye, Canan Aykut Bingol, the rector of the Black Sea Technical University, Hamdullah Cuvalci, and participants of the forum toured an exhibition of pharmaceutical products and medical equipment. It was noted that more than 20 companies engaged in the manufacturing and sale of teaching and medical appliances, medicines and food products participated in the forum.
Welcoming the participants of the first international medical forum in the ancient land of Azerbaijan, Nakhchivan, the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Vasif Talibov, said: “Healthcare plays an important role in the formation of a healthy society. This is because care for the science of medicine and the profession of a doctor has been historically regarded as care for humanity. In the modern times, the level of healthiness of people and access to healthcare services are considered to be a key indicator in the development of countries. Our national leader Heydar Aliyev kept this issue in focus during both terms of his leadership of our country and healthcare building took a strong momentum in Azerbaijan. The healthcare reforms founded by the national leader are being successfully continued by the President of the country, Mr. Ilham Aliyev”.
Speaking at the event, the rector of the Nakhchivan State University, Elbrus Isayev, said that the organization of the medical forum in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic has great prominence as a successful result of the dynamic way that the modern healthcare infrastructure and medical education, which have been under construction for many years, have gone through. Multifaceted actions have been taken during this period in the Nakhchivan State University, too, in order to further improve the level of teaching and scientific research, enlarge international relations and fundamentally strengthen and rebuild the logistical basis. In a period when globalization and internationalization have great importance, the ranking of the university among the world’s best institutions of higher education is a proud achievement. The medical faculty of the Nakhchivan State University, which started with 25 students only, now has 1284 students. It was noted that more than 700 participants are represented in the forum, which is joined by more than 350 scientists from 7 countries. It is planned to have consultative examination, surgery and treatment of patients with the participation of the Azerbaijan Medical University and doctors from abroad.
The rector of the Azerbaijan Medical University, Garay Garaybali, said that he felt proud of participation in the forum of a unique composition in the motherland of national leader Heydar Aliyev, Nakhchivan, as representatives of the victorious nation. “The role of the national leader is undeniable in the development, the logistical build-up and training of highly qualified scientific and pedagogical staff of the Azerbaijan Medical University, which is almost a century old. Today, the head of state, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, successfully continues the policy of the great leader. The provision of the departments and sections of the Azerbaijan Medical University with modern equipment is a vivid example of the President’s care for supreme medical education. Nowadays, the Azerbaijan Medical University is one of the leading education facilities in our region. The university carries out comprehensive cooperation with about 80 scientific and education facilities from 20 countries. In addition, the Azerbaijan Medical University and the Nakhchivan State University signed a memorandum of understanding,” the rector said. He noted that the diversity of the participants and topics of the forum would create conditions for conducting high level discussions to find solutions to topical problems of medicine.
The rector of the Baku branch of the Moscow State Medical University, Aziz Aliyev, said that the healthcare reforms are part of the global strategic program of stable growth and development of social infrastructure in Azerbaijan. “These actions were started by national leader Heydar Aliyev and healthcare facilities and hospitals were constructed and commissioned in all the regions of Azerbaijan on his initiative. The national leader attached great significance to the training of national medical specialists, as well. The state program on the training of doctors in Europe, the US, Russia and Turkiye was drafted at his initiative. The President of the country, Ilham Aliyev, also successfully continues this policy.”
The rector of the Yeditepe University of Turkiye, Canan Aykut Bingol, said that it was important for them to be in Nakhchivan and take part in the medical forum.
The rector of the Black Sea Technical University, Hamdullah Cuvalci, said that cooperation between the Black Sea Technical University and the Nakhchivan State University and participation in the forum opens up immense opportunities for the implementation of joint projects in the future.
The speakers thanked the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic for his support to the forum on behalf of its participants.

The forum continued with an artistic program.
