New york: Azerbaijan’s First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva participated in a special session focused on improving survival rates and reducing suffering for children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. This session was part of the 80th UN General Assembly held on September 24.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the event was organized by the Republic of Uzbekistan and the World Health Organization. It saw participation from notable figures including Mehriban Aliyeva and her daughters, Leyla and Arzu Aliyeva. A group photo was taken with Ziroatkhon Mirziyoyeva, the First Lady of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who both highlighted the global importance of the issue.

First Lady Emine Erdogan of Trkiye and other prominent speakers also contributed to the discussion, emphasizing the need for global action. They noted that the urgency of addressing child cancer is increasing annually, with statistics showing that around 200,000 children worldwide are diagnosed with cancer each year, half of whom do not survive.

The session aimed to capture the attention of the international community and underscore the critical nature of this issue. The event further included panel discussions to explore potential strategies for addressing the problem.
