Baku:First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva attended the dance production "Thikra Night of Remembering" at the Azerbaijan State Academic National Drama Theater. The performance was held as part of the Baku International Arts Festival (BIAF-2026).
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the production, directed by Akram Khan, was commissioned by Wadi AlFann, a contemporary art destination in Al-Ula, Saudi Arabia. The show is a collaboration with visual artist Manal Al-Dowayan and is the final touring production of the Akram Khan Company.
The production features an all-female ensemble that combines sacred rituals and shared memories to bridge time and invoke spiritual renewal. It includes an original score by Indian-American composer Aditya Prakash and visual aesthetics by Manal Al-Dowayan, known for her multimedia installations at the 60th Venice Biennale.
"Thikra Night of Remembering" draws inspiration from Al-Ula's ancient landscapes, mythology, and cultural heritage. The world premiere of the site-specific play was in January 2025, showcasing traditional craftsmanship with contemporary forms and desert-inspired natural dyes.
