Moscow: Intergovernmental cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan is developing primarily within the framework of the Intergovernmental Commission headed by the prime ministers of the two countries, while interparliamentary dialogue has also intensified, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a joint press conference following talks with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, APA's Moscow bureau reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Lavrov highlighted the ongoing intensive dialogue between the two nations at all levels through their foreign ministries. He emphasized that trade and economic cooperation was a primary focus of the bilateral meeting, noting the positive growth dynamics in these areas.

Lavrov confirmed that both Russia and Azerbaijan are keen on further increasing bilateral trade turnover, which reached nearly $5 billion last year. He pointed out that Russia remains one of Azerbaijan's main trading partners and highlighted the significant potential for increasing both trade turnover and direct investment.

The minister mentioned that Russian investment in Azerbaijan is approximately $11 billion. Lavrov also discussed the importance of restoring full-scale cooperation in the cultural, humanitarian, and educational sectors.

In addition to economic discussions, Lavrov stated that the meeting covered pressing regional and international issues, with a particular focus on ensuring stability in the South Caucasus and the Caspian region.
