Baku: The UN Security Council operates in a different format, said former Special Envoy of the Chinese Government for European Affairs, Wu Hongbo, during the panel discussion on “Geopolitical Changes: Responsible Partnership versus Rivalry” held within the framework of the 12th Global Baku Forum, APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Wu Hongbo expressed concerns over the misuse of veto power by certain countries within the Security Council. He emphasized the necessity of initiating constructive dialogue and highlighted the gap between words and actions, noting that Security Council resolutions hold absolute power, yet some nations apply these resolutions selectively. Wu criticized the five permanent members of the Council for their double standards and advocated for reforms to fix the UN system, aiming to restore historical justice, particularly for African and developing countries. He stressed that these changes must be implemented at the UN level.
Wu Hongbo also addressed the relationship between the United States and China, stating that China believes in the potential for both nations to maintain a friendly relationship.
