Baku:The French national football team secured a decisive 4-1 victory against Belgium in the Nations League group stage's fourth round. The match took place on home turf for the French side.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, Desire Douai opened the scoring for France in the 77th minute, followed closely by goals from Ryan Cherki in the 81st minute and two late strikes by Michael Oliseh in the 88th and 90+1 minutes. Belgium's sole goal came from Dodi Lukebakio in the 35th minute.
This victory places France at the top of Group 1 in the top division with 10 points. Belgium currently holds third place with 6 points. In the same group, Italy emerged victorious against Turkey with a 3-1 scoreline, moving to second place with 7 points, while Turkey remains last without any points.
The upcoming round will see France playing Italy away, and Belgium facing Turkey away. These matches are scheduled for November 12. The top two teams from each Elite Division group will advance to the quarterfinals, while the teams finishing at the bottom will face relegation to the second division. Additionally, third-placed teams will compete in play-off matches against the second division's runner-ups for a spot in the elite division of the next competition.
