Freight and Passenger Transportation Surge in Azerbaijan

Baku: In January-July 2026, services worth AZN 9,206.6 million were provided in the transport and storage sector, marking a 7.1% increase in real terms compared to the corresponding period of last year. According to Azeri-Press News Agency, citing the State Statistical Committee, this growth was driven by significant activities in freight and passenger transportation.

The data reveals that during the reporting period, AZN 5,530.7 million, or 60.1% of the services, were dedicated to freight transportation. Passenger transportation accounted for AZN 2,522.9 million, representing 27.4%, while storage and postal services contributed AZN 1,153 million, or 12.5%.

In the transport sector, a total of 140.8 million tons of cargo were transported, reflecting a 2.8% increase compared to the same period last year. Of this cargo, 63% was transported by road, 25.9% by pipeline, 7.4% by rail, 3.6% by sea, and 0.1% by air.

Additionally, the number of passengers transported during the reporting period amounted to 1.290 billion people, an 8.6% rise compared to the same period last year. Of these passengers, 89.3% were transported by road, 10% by metro, and the remainder utilized other modes of transport.
