French Arrest of Telegram CEO and African Rights Activist Criticized by Azerbaijani Official


BAKU: The arrest of Pavel Durov, the CEO of Telegram, and Kemi Seba, an activist for African rights, by French authorities has been sharply criticized by the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry as a breach of human rights. The ministry’s spokesperson, Aykhan Hajizada, condemned the detentions, labeling them as politically motivated and a violation of the principles of free speech and political belief.

According to Trend News Agency, Hajizada expressed concern over the arrests during his comments on the incident. He emphasized that such actions are intolerable and underscored the need for the French government to conduct a transparent and fair investigation. Hajizada urged the international community, including bodies like the EU, the Council of Europe, and the OSCE, to intervene and assess the situation appropriately.

The Azerbaijani spokesperson pointed out the importance of maintaining human rights standards and stressed that the international community should be kept informed about the proceedings. He further a
dvocated for an investigation by relevant European and international bodies to ensure that justice is served and political persecution is avoided.
