French Court Fines Ganimat Zahid Over Defamatory Allegations Against Chingiz Ganizada

Paris: Chairman of the Democracy and Human Rights Committee and human rights defender Chingiz Ganizada held a press conference regarding the decision issued by a French court based on his complaint against Ganimat Zahid, APA reports. Chingiz Ganizada stated that the Paris Criminal Court had adopted a decision on the claim and that his complaint had been upheld, marking a significant moment in his long-standing legal battle.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Ganizada expressed his satisfaction with the court's decision, emphasizing that his goal was to disprove the defamatory statements made by foreign bloggers and to restore his reputation. He recounted the events that led to the court case, explaining that in August 2019, Ganimat Zahidov published false information on his YouTube channel, alleging Ganizada's involvement in the murder of an Azerbaijani citizen in Russia. These allegations, Ganizada noted, had a negative impact on public opinion and prompted him to seek legal recourse in a French court.

The human rights defender further detailed the proceedings, noting Zahid's initial absence from the hearings and the issuance of a compulsory appearance order. When Zahid did appear, he attempted to introduce a false witness, who was subsequently dismissed from the courtroom. Despite Zahid's characterization of the trial as political, the Paris Criminal Court found him guilty of a criminal offense on October 21, 2025, and imposed a fine of 500 euros. The relatively small fine was attributed to Zahid's unemployment and his status as a protected individual under the French state.

Ganizada highlighted the significance of the court's decision, describing it as a historic case for Azerbaijan. He underscored that, despite seeking refuge in another country, Zahid was held accountable for his actions. Ganizada also clarified that those responsible for the murder of the Azerbaijani citizen mentioned by Zahid have been detained and punished. He warned that any further slander from Zahid could result in his deportation from his current country of residence.
