Shamakhi: The solar wind speed is expected to remain above normal levels due to the influence of positively polarized Coronal Hole Streams, the Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory, named after Nasreddin Tusi told APA. It was stated that due to the geoeffective nature of coronal holes on the geomagnetic field, a G1-G2 level, i.e., weak and medium-strength geomagnetic storm, is expected on December 22-24.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the increased solar wind is a result of the current conditions affecting the geomagnetic field. These conditions are influenced by the coronal holes, which are areas on the sun's surface with lower density and temperature, allowing solar wind to escape more easily. The interaction between the solar wind and Earth's magnetic field can cause disturbances, leading to geomagnetic storms.
The forecast indicates that the geomagnetic storm will be of G1-G2 level strength, meaning it will range from weak to medium intensity. Such storms can have various effects, including minor impacts on satellite operations and weak fluctuations in power grids. The observatory's forecast provides advanced notice to prepare and mitigate potential impacts on technology and infrastructure.
