Stockholm: An opening ceremony marking the start of the new academic year was held at the Garabagh Weekend School operating under the Sweden-Azerbaijan Union (SAF) in Stockholm. The event is of great importance in fostering a sense of attachment to national and spiritual values and nurturing patriotism among children of Azerbaijanis living abroad.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the significance of such educational initiatives was emphasized by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev at the 5th Congress of World Azerbaijanis held in Shusha. Weekend schools operating outside the country are seen as strategically important for the future development of Azerbaijan's diaspora.
Chairwoman of the SAF, Sevda Dadashova, highlighted that these schools play an irreplaceable role in shielding Azerbaijani children living abroad from assimilation while preserving their native language, national identity, history, and cultural heritage. Dadashova stated, "The native language is the soul of the nation and the memory of the people. A child who knows their native language recognizes their roots, understands their identity, and strengthens their spiritual ties with the Motherland. The Garabagh Weekend School, operating precisely for this noble purpose, instills in children not only knowledge but also love for Azerbaijan, national pride, and patriotism."
She also emphasized the ongoing support from the State Committee on Work with Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan, expressing deep gratitude to the Committee's Chairman Fuad Muradov and the entire staff for their assistance.
During the event, the annual curriculum of the Garabagh Weekend School was presented, followed by the introduction of new pupils and teachers. Sevda Dadashova familiarized them with the activities of the educational institution. In the new academic year, the Garabagh Weekend School plans to offer classes in the Azerbaijani language, national music, and folk dances.
