Garry Jacobs: The right step would be to build a global consensus

“I think the right step would be to build a global consensus that the invasion of one country by another and the aggression that is taken place is totally unacceptable. And it has to stop. We have to build up that public opinion globally,” said participant of the 9th Global Baku Forum, President and CEO of World Academy of Art & Science Garry Jacobs in his interview with AZERTAC.

“Up until now it is been done diplomatically through the UN, through the diplomats. But what about the public? What we need is, security is not just the question of nation states, it’s the question of human of beings.

The commonality we have is we are all concerned about our security. So, we want a shift, a call to a shift from national security to humans security for all instead of the nations, states battling and competing at all. Everybody has a right to human security. So we are proposing a global campaign to appeal to the masses of people, not just to the diplomats. Up until now, it’s all been done at a political level. But what about the people who have to support this? Don’t we all want that freedom? Don’t we all want that sense of security? That’s the next step we need to go. Because we are trying to build a new world order. The world has never had real peace and security. We’ve never had that assurance. Now the time comes that we need to go to a system where it is not just what the nations, states negotiate, it’s what the people of the world want. So we are calling for a global, social movement. So that everybody understands this is for us. It is not just the Ukrainian people who are suffering, or the Africans who are not going to get their food, or those in Europe who are not going to get their energy they need. That fundamental right for human security must be for everybody. That’s the call we need,” Garry Jacobs noted.
