General dismissed after the April 2016 war becomes the Minister of Defense of Armenia

On Monday, Major General Arshak Karapetyan was appointed Minister of Defense of Armenia on the recommendation of the head of government and by the decision of the President of the country.

A few months ago, he took over as deputy chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, after the dismissal of a group of generals who had revolted against Pashinyan.

Ten days ago, he was appointed acting head. Minister of Defense, after which he went to Moscow to meet with the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Sergei Shoigu.

It is noteworthy that Arshak Karapetyan, being the chief of military intelligence, was fired after the April 2016 war. Then he was accused of “oversleeping” the actions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. However, in December 2018, Nikol Pashinyan appointed him as his advisor.
