Baku:The genetic identification of human remains, particularly those exposed to external factors for extended periods, presents a complex challenge. However, advancements in modern methods and a high level of specialist training are overcoming these obstacles, as highlighted by Jamila Bayramova, chief specialist at the Genetic Research Center of the Main Military Medical Department of the State Security Service, during a panel session at the 4th International Conference within the Baku Dialogue on Missing Persons.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, Bayramova explained that specialists primarily work with bone samples subjected to various factors over time. Elements such as soil characteristics and temperature fluctuations contribute to DNA degradation, complicating the research and necessitating a specialized approach.
Genetic analyses, incorporating modern DNA technologies, are crucial in addressing these challenges. Despite difficulties in acquiring reference samples, experts persist in the identification process by leveraging available resources.
Bayramova stressed that the combination of professional training, the application of contemporary scientific methods, and a tailored approach to each sample enables the resolution of intricate cases.
