Georgian and foreign citizens travelling from eight countries, including South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini (Swaziland), Mozambique and Malawi, will need to quarantine for 14 days following the emergence of Covid-19 variant in South Africa, according to Agenda.ge.

After the quarantine, the individuals will need to make a PCR test. While the foreign citizens will have to cover all of the expenses on their own, the state will cover the costs of the Georgian citizens.

The regulations enter into effect in Georgia today after a new Covid-19 variant of Omicron, which has a high number of mutations, has reached some of the European countries, prompting them to impose restrictions including travel bans on several southern African countries.

The World Health Organization (WHO) says as the virus is moving faster than the global distribution of vaccines, the fastest way to end the pandemic is to ensure vaccines are available to everyone, everywhere.
