Tbilisi: Georgia is set to enhance the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway line starting next year, as announced by Lasha Abashidze, General Director of Georgian Railways JSC. This announcement was made at a panel during the V Tbilisi Silk Way Forum.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Abashidze emphasized the regional significance of the BTK project. The planned upgrades include the establishment of a new terminal in Akhalkalaki, which is expected to serve as a critical junction for various operations. The BTK project is seen as a vital link for fostering new partnerships along the Middle Corridor, with the railway line having a cargo capacity of 5 million tons.

Abashidze also projected that by 2027, the enhancements would lead to increased safety and speed in freight transportation across Georgia’s railways, marking a significant improvement in regional rail infrastructure.
