Georgian Opposition’s Sole Path to Victory is a “Color Revolution,” Says Russian Analyst

TBILISI: The Georgian Dream party’s opponents in the upcoming parliamentary elections have only one viable path to victory, which involves orchestrating a “color revolution,” according to Igor Korotchenko, general director of the Caspian Institute for Strategic Studies in Russia.

According to Trend News Agency, Igor Korotchenko emphasized the critical nature of the upcoming elections scheduled for October 26, stating they will determine the future trajectory of Georgia. He highlighted that the Georgian opposition, despite significant support from Western nations, faces slim chances of entering parliament or achieving a constitutional majority. Korotchenko pointed out that the likely scenario involves opposition groups attempting to incite street riots and seize government buildings in Tbilisi and other cities to forcibly overthrow the current government.

Korotchenko also noted that recent Georgian laws restricting NGO activities funded from abroad have sparked debate, yet he insists these measures are legit
imate attempts to clarify the funding and operations of opposition groups. He expressed concern that any successful destabilization in Georgia, potentially orchestrated by Western interests, could lead to wider regional instability in the South Caucasus, affecting neighboring countries like Armenia. The analyst calls for a transparent and legitimate election process to avoid such outcomes.
