Gilan Governor Announces Rasht-Astara Railway Line Completion Timeline

Rasht: The entire Rasht-Astara railway line will be opened in 4 months, Gilan Province Governor Hadi Haqshanas said in an interview with APA. The project, which spans 162 kilometers, has already seen 90 kilometers opened, with 70 kilometers put into operation over the past seven months.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, a 70-kilometer section of the Rasht-Astara railway line has been put into operation over the past seven months, leaving only 70 kilometers remaining. Governor Haqshanas expressed confidence that the full opening of the line will be achieved within the next four months, highlighting the Iranian government’s commitment to the project.

Haqshanas explained that the line is being opened in stages, with preparatory work for rail equipment installation being conducted simultaneously. The governor also mentioned that the contractor company, which has a contract with Russia, will proceed to the next phase once the line is fully operational. The overall construction period for the Rasht-Astara pro
ject is planned to span three years.

Additionally, Haqshanas shared details of a recent trilateral commission meeting held in Baku with representatives from Azerbaijan, Russia, and Iran. The meeting involved the deputy prime ministers of Azerbaijan and Russia, along with the Iranian Minister of Transport. Following the meeting, the officials traveled from Baku to Lankaran and then to Astara to assess the project’s progress. The Iranian Minister of Transport provided directives to expedite the work.
