Baku: The high-level organization of the World Urban Forum 13 (WUF13) in Baku carries significant importance for the wider region, according to Giorgi Khaindrava, a Georgian political expert. He extended his congratulations to his Azerbaijani counterparts, highlighting the event's impact beyond the borders of Azerbaijan.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Khaindrava emphasized that hosting WUF13 in Baku underscores the region's increasing importance on the global stage. He acknowledged Azerbaijan's advancements in urban development and referenced statements from leaders in both Azerbaijan and Georgia, who have prioritized sustainable urban growth and balanced development. Khaindrava also pointed out that the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia serves as a model, with the forum demonstrating consistent progress in urbanization, infrastructure, and long-term planning.
Khaindrava further remarked on the detrimental effects of neglect during the Soviet era, which resulted in long-term challenges for urban development. However, he noted that current effective urbanization policies are producing positive outcomes. Reflecting on his 65-year familiarity with Baku, he observed that the city's present development is a testament to a strong commitment to modernization and urban planning.
