Baku: Sustainable cities cannot exist without sustainable agriculture, stated Ramil Azmammadov, CEO of Grand Agro Invitro, during the conference 'Green homes, green balconies: Hydroponic solutions in climate-resilient urban planning' at WUF13. He emphasized that the challenge is not just about increasing food production but doing so with minimal water usage, reduced waste, and less environmental impact while boosting efficiency.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Azmammadov highlighted the rapid urbanization and the increasing challenge of feeding growing city populations. He pointed out a common misconception that agriculture is solely a rural issue, whereas it is increasingly relevant to urban contexts. As cities expand, agriculture faces challenges such as climate change, water shortages, labor deficits, and rising costs, making its modernization crucial for urban futures.

Azmammadov further explained that agriculture is becoming an urban concern as the global population, especially in urban areas, is projected to rise significantly by 2050. He noted that food security and systems are vulnerable to climate and resource constraints. Urban areas depend on reliable food supply chains, effective water management, and sustainable agriculture, underscoring that sustainable urban development is intertwined with agricultural sustainability.
