Hande Harmanci: We can end the acute phase of the pandemic this year

“COVID-19 pandemic, which has been raging around the two years for more than two years, has been experienced differently in each country. There are still countries and regions in the world where the incidence and mortality of the virus are high, while the coverage of vaccinations is quite low,” the Azerbaijan Office of the World Health Organization told APA.

“As the acute phase of the disease continues in those regions, it leads to the emergence of new strains, the transmission of which causes the global spread of the virus:

“This factor means that the pandemic is not over and the risk of contracting the disease has not completely disappeared. The World Health Organization has set a goal of vaccinating 70% of the country’s population by July 2022. Increasing the proportion of vaccinated people in the majority of risk groups is the most important step in combating the pandemic. Moreover, the reduction of death rate through strong clinical management and supervision, starting with primary care, and the improvement of relevant health services through the continuation of public health interventions are other activities to be undertaken.

We believe that as a result of the comprehensive introduction of all these strategies and measures, we can end the acute phase of the pandemic this year, “the statement said.
