Harvey Weinstein Indicted on New Charges by New York Grand Jury

NEW YORK – Harvey Weinstein, the former Hollywood producer whose alleged sexual misconduct ignited the #MeToo movement, has been indicted on new charges by a New York City grand jury. The Manhattan District Attorney’s office announced the indictment during a court hearing on Thursday.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the new indictment remains under seal, and further details were not disclosed. Prosecutor Nicole Blumberg informed Judge Curtis Farber, who presided over the hearing, that a trial date has been set for November 12. Weinstein did not attend the hearing, as he is currently recovering from emergency heart surgery at Bellevue Hospital after being transferred from Rikers Island jail earlier this week. He is expected to be arraigned once he recovers.

Weinstein, convicted in 2020 on charges of third-degree rape and first-degree criminal sexual acts, has faced accusations from more than 80 women. While he has consistently denied these claims, maintaining that the encounters were consensual, his 23-year prison sentence was overturned in April following a decision by a state appellate court. The court ruled in a 4-3 decision that the trial judge erred by allowing testimony from women whose allegations were not part of the formal charges.
