Azerbaijan sold abroad 21,865 tons of peeled and shelled hazelnuts in 2022, up 12.3% from the previous year, the State Statistics Committee said with reference to the State Customs Committee.

During the year, 1,665 tonnes of shelled hazelnuts (+48.5%) were exported at an average price of $2,593 per tonne which is 4.1% cheaper than in 2021. Peeled hazelnut (20,200 tonnes, +10.1%) was sold abroad at an average price of $5,263.49/tonne. Exporters’ earnings were down 11.3% as compared to 2021.

It is worth recalling that peeled hazelnut is mainly exported to Russia – 10,651.18 tons, Germany – 3,278.6 tons, Italy – 4,322.1 tons, Kazakhstan – 799.1 tons, Switzerland – 340 tons, Poland – 174.5 tons, Czech Republic – 108 tons, France – 100 tons, etc.

According to the SCC, Azerbaijan produced 67,630.2 tons of hazelnut in 2021, which is up by 36.7% from 2020. As of the beginning of 2022, the area of hazelnut orchards in Azerbaijan was 80,426 ha, growing by 808 ha over the year. No statistical data for 2022 has yet been released
