Baku: As part of the programme 'For Life Without Thalassemia' initiated by the First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Mehriban Aliyeva, a voluntary blood donation campaign was organized at the Military Institute named after Heydar Aliyev of the National Defense University, the Ministry told AZERTAC.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, about 100 cadets, along with approximately 30 members of the teaching staff and officers of the military institute, participated in the event. During the campaign, a medical team from the Republican Blood Bank under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan collected blood from donors after checking their health conditions.
After being examined, the collected blood samples will be certified and transferred to the relevant institutions for use in the treatment of people suffering from hereditary blood diseases. The main purpose of the blood donation campaign is to create a blood reserve for children suffering from thalassemia, hemophilia, leukemia, and other blood diseases, to preserve the traditions of voluntary and unpaid blood donation in society and the Army, as well as to ensure a sustainable supply of blood and blood components.
