Baku: The latest feature in AZERTAC's 'If I Were a Tourist' column sheds light on the magnificent Heydar Mosque, a monumental religious site in Baku constructed under the directives of President Ilham Aliyev. Spanning an impressive 12,000 square meters, the mosque boasts a fa§ade adorned with special stones characteristic of the Shirvan-Absheron architectural style. Its grandeur is further enhanced by four towering minarets, each standing 95 meters tall.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the mosque's interior is a testament to intricate craftsmanship, with 4,200 square meters of space featuring elaborate decorative elements and Quranic verses inscribed along the dome's edges. The main dome soars to a height of 55 meters, accompanied by a secondary dome reaching 35 meters, with the main dome's diameter measuring 30 meters.

This architectural marvel accommodates up to 7,000 worshippers, earning its place as the largest religious complex in the South Caucasus. Beyond its architectural significance, the complex is a symbol of peace, mutual respect, and multiculturalism, welcoming worshippers from various Islamic denominations.

The expansive prayer hall is adorned with Islamic geometric patterns, stone carvings, and Arabic calligraphy, creating a harmonious visual ensemble. The upper floors are designed to include separate prayer rooms for women, alongside facilities for Quran study classes and library sections.
