Baku: ‘There is a high political will to establish an environment of political dialogue,’ said Adalat Valiyev, Head of the Department for Relations with Political Parties and Legislative Authority of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Valiyev highlighted the significance of the 2024 snap parliamentary elections held in the Milli Majlis. For the first time in Azerbaijan’s history of independence and parliamentary proceedings, 25 out of 26 political parties participated in the election with candidates, achieving a participation rate of 99%. Valiyev noted that the People’s Front Party was the only one to withdraw from the elections, exhibiting what he described as irrational behavior.

In comparison, Valiyev pointed out that the 2020 parliamentary elections saw a significantly lower participation rate of 36.4%, with only 20 out of 62 political parties taking part. Additionally, of the 991 candidates registered in the recent elections, 305 were nominated by political parties, constituting 30.7% of all candidates. This was an increase from the 2020 parliamentary elections, where 246 candidates were nominated by political parties, representing 18.7% of all candidates.
