Baku:The number of people missing as a result of the war in Ukraine is reported to be in the hundreds of thousands, according to former Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko. He made this statement at the Fourth International Conference held within the framework of the Baku Dialogue on Missing Persons.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, Yushchenko highlighted the severe humanitarian consequences of the war with Russia, noting that the contact line spans approximately 2,300 kilometers. He emphasized the daily recording of civilian casualties in Ukraine and pointed to the front line as the site of the greatest tragedies.
Yushchenko claimed that in the past 30 days, Russia has suffered losses amounting to 42,000 people. He advocated for international support to extend beyond expressions of solidarity, urging practical cooperation to address the humanitarian issues arising from the conflict.
The former president also underscored the importance of international attention on the return of prisoners and deported children. He noted the vast scale of the problem involving missing persons, those killed on the front whose bodies have not been returned, and forcibly deported children, stressing that it affects hundreds of thousands rather than tens of thousands.
Yushchenko concluded by expressing his belief that Ukraine will win the war not through sheer numbers, but through skill and its capacity to engage in modern, asymmetric warfare.
