BUDAPEST: Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is set to represent Hungary at the upcoming COP29 climate summit in Azerbaijan, highlighting the deepening ties between Hungary and Azerbaijan and their joint efforts in environmental and energy initiatives. According to Trend News Agency, the announcement was made by Hungarian ambassador to Azerbaijan, Tamás Torma, during a ceremony commemorating the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. This visit marks Orbán's third trip to Azerbaijan in less than a year, underscoring the frequent and strengthening interactions between the two nations. Ambassador Torma praised Azerbaijan for its substantial preparations for COP29, expressing confidence in Azerbaijan's ability to host a successful event. He reiterated Hungary's full support for the goals set under the Azerbaijani chairmanship at the summit. The relations between Hungary and Azerbaijan have been described as robust and expansive, with bilateral cooperation extending beyond direct interaction to include multilateral engagements, such as those within Turkic associations. This partnership has evolved into an expanded strategic alliance over the past thirty years, bringing significant accomplishments in various sectors. Among these achievements, Torma highlighted a recent transaction where the Hungarian state-owned energy group MVM acquired a 5 percent share in the Shah Deniz gas condensate field, which ranks among the world's largest. This acquisition plays a crucial part in the broader Green Energy Corridor project, a collaborative effort supported by Azerbaijan, Hungary, Georgia, and Romania, aimed at delivering clean and sustainable energy to Europe.
