IAEA and Turkmenistan Collaborate on Framework for Peaceful Atomic Energy Use


ASHGABAT: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan facilitated a working group meeting focused on crafting the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Country Framework Program for 2024-2029. This initiative aims to enhance the peaceful application of atomic energy across various sectors in Turkmenistan, including medicine, agriculture, environmental protection, and water resource management.

According to Trend News Agency, the discussions underscored the necessity of cooperation in these sectors, with a particular emphasis on medical applications, notably in combating cancer. The IAEA’s imPACT program, which is active in Turkmenistan, was highlighted for its role in coordinating strategies and monitoring advancements in cancer control.

The meeting concluded with a commitment from both sides to persist in efforts related to peaceful atomic energy use, aligning with Turkmenistan’s objectives for sustainable development and optimizing national potential. The IAEA’s imPACT missions, which are integral
to improving national cancer control systems, assess national capacities and help Member States, including Turkmenistan, to identify priority actions and develop resource-based strategies.

These assessments are conducted in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Agency for Research on Cancer, offering guidance on planning and resource management for an effective cancer response.
