Baku: The State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons continues to operate in accordance with international humanitarian law, focusing on the release of citizens taken hostage or captured as a result of Armenia’s military aggression, and the search for missing individuals, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Commission has cooperated with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Representation in Azerbaijan throughout this process. Since the beginning of the conflict, the families of captives and missing persons have been received by both institutions. Their appeals have been reviewed, necessary actions taken, lists clarified, and information exchanged. In addition, both psychological and social support have been provided to the families and former captives.

In light of the ICRC’s upcoming suspension of operations in Azerbaijan, the Commission assures the public that urgent steps are being taken to determine the fate of missing citizens. This includes continued search, excavation, and exhumation work in liberated areas, as well as the identification and return of discovered remains to families.

The Commission’s Working Group continues to receive citizen appeals and holds regular consultations.
