Baku:Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov met with Secretary-General and CEO of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Philippe Metzger to discuss expanding cooperation within the framework of Azerbaijan's associate membership in the IEC. The discussions centered around the application of international standards in areas such as energy transition, electrification, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and new technologies.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, the IEC Secretary-General commended Azerbaijan's increasing role in the global energy and climate agenda, especially its initiatives during its COP29 presidency. Azerbaijan's associate membership in IEC has opened new avenues for collaboration, with the IEC ready to support the country in standardization and conformity assessment in various energy fields.

Minister Shahbazov provided insights on the ongoing reforms in Azerbaijan's energy transition, the development of renewable energy sources, and enhancements to the legislative framework for energy efficiency. Efforts to align Azerbaijan's regulatory framework with international standards and continue its energy initiatives from COP29 were also discussed. The meeting emphasized the significance of utilizing the IEC's technical expertise in applying modern technologies to energy projects.

Electrification is noted as a major trend for the future of the global energy system and economy. The need for developing modern infrastructure to ensure efficient electricity transmission and delivery to consumers was highlighted. Discussions also included the 'Caspian-Black Sea-Europe Green Energy Corridor' project and the importance of expanding cooperation with the IEC, involving the National Electrotechnical Committee and technical working groups, while encouraging local specialists to participate actively in standard development processes.
