The Indian government has decided to observe two days of national mourning in memory of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, APA reports citing India Today.

Known as the ‘Nightingale of India’, Lata Mangeshkar passed away at Candy Breach Hospital in Mumbai early Sunday. She was 92.

” A two-day national mourning will now be observed in memory of Lata Mangeshkar on February 6 and 7. The National flag will fly at half-mast for two days, as a mark of respect,” government sources said.

Lata Mangeshkar.was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on January 8 after she tested positive for Covid-19. She was under treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) over the past couple of weeks.

After showing signs of improvement recently, her health condition deteriorated. Unfortunately, she passed away today, leaving the entire nation in a state of grief.

Lata Mangeshkar’s mortal remains will be shifted to Prabhukunj, her Peddar Road residence, from 12 pm to 3 pm for homage. Later, her body will be shifted to the Shivaji Park in Mumbai at around 4.30 pm. Her cremation will take place at Shivaji Park.

Expressing grief over the demise of Lata Mangeshkar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “I am anguished beyond words. The kind and caring Lata Didi has left us. She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled. The coming generations will remember her as a stalwart of Indian culture, whose melodious voice had an unparalleled ability to mesmerise people.”
