Baku: The next trial of the criminal case initiated by the State Security Service (SSS) against Namig Nabiyev, who is accused of financing terrorism, was held today, APA reports. The trial was declared open at the Baku Court on Grave Crimes, chaired by Judge Nigar Imanova, where the state prosecutor announced the indictment.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, it was revealed that Namig Nabiyev, against the background of the conflict in Syria, transferred USD 28,479 at various times since 2022 to bank cards registered under different individuals. These funds were reportedly sent to the terrorist group known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) to purchase weapons or other means that could be used for terrorism. In his testimony, Nabiyev claimed involvement in charity work, stating, “I created a WhatsApp group and posted there to collect charity. Money was sent, and I delivered the money to the right place.”

The next trial is scheduled for December 23. It should be noted that Namig Nabiyev, who was detained by the State Security Service, is charged under Articles 167-3.1 (possession of religious extremist materials) and 214-1 (financing terrorism) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. With partial accumulation of sentences, Namig Nabiyev may be sentenced to 10 to 14 years in prison.
