Aktau: Russia’s “AlfaStrakhovanie” company will provide insurance compensation of 2 million rubles, or approximately AZN 38,000, for each passenger involved in the crash of an AZAL plane near Aktau, as announced by Ilya Kabachnik, the Deputy General Director for Aviation and Space Insurance at AlfaStrakhovanie.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Kabachnik explained that the passenger transportation process for the AZAL Baku-Grozny flight is governed by the 1999 Montreal Convention, to which both Azerbaijan and Russia are signatories. The insurance contract between “Alfa Insurance” and AZAL covers risks for flights to Russia, and thus, payments are made following Russia’s mandatory carrier liability law, 67-FZ.
Kabachnik further noted, “According to this law, the payment amount for damage to life and health has been set at 2 million rubles, and once the necessary documents are submitted, the payments can be made promptly.”
