BAKU – An international conference focusing on the contested status of Mayotte Island was held in Baku on September 3, bringing together various stakeholders to discuss the “illegal French occupation of Mayotte Island in the Union of the Comoros.”
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the conference was organized by the Baku Initiative Group and saw significant participation from international delegates who debated the geopolitical and legal nuances of Mayotte’s status. The event concluded with the signing of a final statement, underscoring the collective stance of the participants against the current status quo.
The gathering was not only a forum for discussion but also an expression of gratitude towards the Baku Initiative Group and the people of Azerbaijan for hosting the conference, highlighting the role of Azerbaijan as a facilitator of international diplomatic dialogue.
