Shusha: The international conference titled "Cultural and Ethnic Diversity: Lessons of History, Modern Challenges" has commenced at the Karabakh Hotel in Shusha, organized by the Center for Cultural and Ethnic Diversity Public Union, in partnership with the Silk Road Cultural and Historical Research Public Union. Representatives from 10 countries, including Azerbaijan, are attending the conference to discuss topics such as ethnic and cultural diversity, human rights, colonial policy, and the history of the peoples of the Caucasus.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the conference began on July 6 and gathered participants from countries including the United States, France, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Israel, Trkiye, and Georgia. Seyfaddin Huseynli, the Chairman of the Center for Cultural and Ethnic Diversity, highlighted the discrimination faced by various peoples in Russia, including Azerbaijanis, based on ethnic and religious identity. He recalled incidents where his relatives in Yekaterinburg were attacked by Russian law enforcement officers.

Foreign experts addressed the conference, discussing Russia's colonial policy in the Caucasus, the history of the Circassians, and issues related to genocide allegations, deportations, and forced military service. A representative from Israel praised Azerbaijan for preserving its independence and national identity. Aida Eyvazli Goyturk, Chairwoman of the Silk Road Cultural and Historical Research Public Union, spoke about Azerbaijan's history of occupation and deportations, describing the Karabakh Victory as the restoration of historical justice.

The conference is set to continue with panel discussions, providing a platform for further dialogue on these pressing issues.
