Baku: This year, global coal demand will increase by 0.5% compared to 2024, reaching a record high of 8.85 billion tons, APA-Economics reports, citing the International Energy Agency (IEA) report ‘Coal 2025’.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the report highlights that global coal demand is expected to gradually decline towards the end of this decade, amid increasing competition from other energy sources, including renewables, natural gas, and nuclear power.

The report projects that global coal demand for 2030 will decrease by 3% compared to 2025, indicating a shift in energy consumption patterns as alternative energy sources become more prevalent.
