Paris: The meeting of the Road Transport Group was held in Paris on the sidelines of the International Transport Forum (ITF). Azerbaijan was represented at the event by officials from the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport and the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency. Discussions focused on efforts under the multilateral quota system of the European Conference of Ministers of Transport (ECMT) and future priorities, with an exchange of views on improving the efficiency of international freight transport, aligning the system with modern requirements, and ensuring sustainable development.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the meeting achieved significant progress on draft documents related to the rules for new participants joining the ECMT multilateral quota system, introducing licenses for zero-emission vehicles starting in 2027, and expanding the ECMT digital system's functionality. The Azerbaijani delegation highlighted the strategic importance of geographically expanding the multilateral quota system to strengthen international transport links, increase freight operation efficiency, and ensure more productive use of permits.
The delegation noted that these changes would facilitate interregional freight transport, enhance transport corridor efficiency, and strengthen the resilience of global supply chains. During the meeting, member countries were encouraged to address the issue constructively, focusing on developing international transport links and fostering a more integrated transport system.
