Baku: The inventory of 130 monuments located in Karabakh and East Zangezur has not yet been completed, Head of the State Service for Protection, Development and Restoration of Cultural Heritage Sabina Hajiyeva stated during her speech on the fourth day of Baku Climate Action Week 2026 (BCAW 2026).

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Hajiyeva emphasized that the primary reason for the delay in completing the inventory is the ongoing issue of mine contamination in these territories. Azerbaijan has initiated large-scale humanitarian demining operations, applying a people- and culture-centered approach in the restoration process. This approach includes the restoration of historical monuments, the reopening of cultural institutions, the building of 'smart villages' and modern cities, the expansion of green energy infrastructure, and the return of internally displaced persons to their native lands.

Hajiyeva highlighted that returning to Karabakh and Zangezur is not solely about people living there again but also about ensuring that they feel at home. For this reason, the preservation and restoration of the monuments, which are integral to their heritage, are crucial.
