TEHRAN: Iran places high importance on bolstering its cooperation with Azerbaijan, as stated by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during a meeting with Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev in Tehran.
According to Trend News Agency, President Pezeshkian emphasized the significance of expanding relations with Azerbaijan, especially in the areas of energy, agriculture, and transportation infrastructure. Iran supports the segregation of rail and road routes between the two nations and is eager to advance these sectors under the framework of previous agreements.
The Iranian leader also voiced strong support for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and expressed concerns about foreign interference in regional affairs. Pezeshkian highlighted that regional security and other issues could be effectively managed through direct cooperation among the nations within the region.
During the discussions, Pezeshkian brought up the ongoing legal proceedings regarding the attack on the Azerbaijani Embassy in T
ehran, assuring that it would remain a priority until fully resolved.
On the other side, Deputy Prime Minister Mustafayev conveyed Azerbaijan’s readiness to enhance partnerships with Iran across various domains including economy, trade, energy exchange, and cultural ties. He reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s respect for territorial sovereignty, denying any territorial ambitions and rejecting claims against its integrity.
Mustafayev also extended an invitation to President Pezeshkian to attend the upcoming 29th Conference of Partners of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), set to take place in Baku, which underscores the environmental collaboration aspect of their bilateral relations.
