BAKU – Iran is taking steps towards new discussions on its nuclear program, former Iranian Member of Parliament Heshmetullah Falahatpish stated, according to reports by Trend. Falahatpish emphasized that the Comprehensive Joint Action Plan (JCPOA), which was originally agreed upon between Iran and the “5+1” group (USA, UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany), is now considered a thing of the past.

According to Trend News Agency, these upcoming discussions will officially recognize the work carried out under the framework of the JCPOA, and a timeline for the lifting of sanctions on Iran is expected to be presented. He added that the current disagreements between Iran and the U.S. over the nuclear program could potentially be resolved more easily than in previous years.

The JCPOA was implemented in January 2016 but faced disruption in May 2018 when the U.S. withdrew from the agreement and imposed sanctions on Iran later that year. Iran declared in 2020 that it would no longer abide by restrictions set forth in the deal.
