Iran Proposes BRICS Secretariat to Boost Program Implementation


KAZAN: Iran has suggested the establishment of a dedicated secretariat for BRICS to expedite the implementation of various programs within the organization, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced at the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia. The initiative aims to enhance coordination among member states for economic and financial cooperation.

According to Trend News Agency, President Pezeshkian emphasized that the foreign ministries of BRICS member states could prioritize the creation of this secretariat on their agendas. He highlighted the potential for member states to focus on economic and financial matters in the coming years, suggesting that enhanced cooperation could bolster sustainable economic and trade activities by leveraging domestic capabilities.

BRICS, an intergovernmental organization founded in 2006, currently includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, along with new members Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia. Russia took over the BRICS chairmanship on January 1, 2024,
and is hosting the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan from October 22-24. The summit’s theme, “Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security,” underscores the organization’s commitment to collaborative global progress.
