Iran Set to Finalize Economic Agreements with Russia, President Pezeshkian Announces


KAZAN: Iran is on the verge of signing significant agreements with Russia, particularly in economic sectors, as announced by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The discussions occurred on the sidelines of the BRICS summit currently being held in Kazan, highlighting the strategic ties between the two nations.

According to Trend News Agency, President Pezeshkian emphasized the importance of Iran-Russia relations, stating that they hold strategic value for both countries. He expressed optimism about the potential for constructive cooperation within the BRICS framework, which could help both nations counteract sanctions imposed by the United States. Pezeshkian also expressed gratitude towards Russia for its support in Iran’s permanent membership in BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

During the meeting, President Putin acknowledged the multidimensional nature of Iran-Russia cooperation. He cited ongoing projects, such as the construction of r
ailroads in Iran and the development of additional units at the Bushehr nuclear power plant, as key examples of their partnership.

The BRICS organization, founded in 2006, currently includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, along with newer members Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia. Russia assumed the BRICS chairmanship on January 1, 2024. The current summit, themed “Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security,” is taking place in Kazan from October 22 to 24 under Russia’s leadership.
