Iranian President to Attend BRICS Summit in Russia


TEHRAN: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is set to visit Russia on October 22 for the BRICS and BRICS+ summit, signaling Iran’s increasing engagement with major emerging economies. The visit was confirmed by Habibullah Abbasi, head of the public relations department of the Iranian Presidential Office, who spoke to local media.

According to Trend News Agency, President Pezeshkian is expected to deliver an address at the summit, which brings together heads of state from BRICS member countries. In addition to his participation in the summit, the Iranian president will conduct bilateral meetings with several leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping. These discussions are anticipated to cover a range of topics pertinent to regional and international cooperation.

BRICS, an intergovernmental organization founded in 2006, focuses on fostering collaboration among major emerging economies. Russia, which will hold the BRICS chairmanship starting January 1, 2024, is hostin
g this year’s summit. The organization’s membership has expanded beyond its original five countries-Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa-to include newer members such as Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia. This expansion underscores the group’s growing influence and its appeal to other nations seeking to engage in multilateral dialogues.
