Baku: The Ambassador of the State of Israel to Azerbaijan, Ronen Krausz, provided insights into the recent ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, as well as the ongoing military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon, during an interview with APA.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Ambassador Krausz emphasized that the ceasefire was a coordinated effort between the United States and Israel. He stated that the timing was aligned with recent military achievements, creating a window for potential negotiations with Iran. The ambassador expressed hope that these talks could address key concerns such as Iran's nuclear capabilities, ballistic missile program, and support for proxy groups like Hezbollah and the Houthis.
Ambassador Krausz responded to criticisms from Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid, asserting that Israel has successfully achieved many strategic targets in its recent confrontations. He detailed the elimination of key Iranian figures, the destruction of a significant portion of Iran's naval fleet, and the disabling of its air defense systems. Additionally, Iran's missile and drone manufacturing capabilities have been severely curtailed.
Regarding the situation in Lebanon, Ambassador Krausz clarified that Lebanon is not included in the ceasefire agreement. He emphasized that Israel continues its operations against Hezbollah, which poses a threat to Israeli security. He reiterated that Lebanon is a sovereign nation and called upon its government to dismantle Hezbollah's activities south of the Litani River. Israel, he stated, would take necessary measures to neutralize threats if Lebanon fails to act.
Ambassador Krausz also addressed the possibility of resuming military operations in Iran should the need arise. He expressed optimism about upcoming negotiations in Islamabad, hoping they will result in an agreement that satisfies regional security needs. However, he affirmed Israel's readiness to defend itself against any hostile actions from Iran or its proxies.
